Coming home to my body…

• Starting May 8th, 2025

Coming home to my body…

“I wish I had a flat stomach. It would make me feel so young and happy!”, “My hips are too big and nothing fits me anymore”, “I wish my body would cooperate with me”, “Why doesn’t this pain go away?”, “Must be nice to have all these muscles on”, “They look so happy and healthy in their body… I am desperate and hopeless looking at mine”, “I don’t want to talk about my body, it’s too depressing”, “My body? Which body? Oh this? This is just a vehicle to take me places…” Inner talk from a modern day woman / man, on a good day!

If you experience a version of this inner dialogue in your head, you are not alone.

Our modern day culture greatly presses us to alter our bodies to fit a surreal magazine-like picture. Add to that our expectation that our bodies should heal on command or be as healthy as another. Caught between external conditioning and inner pressures, we expect that once we look like the perfect picture we will finally be accepted, approved of and cheered on by others and ourselves. We can then stop feeling inadequate, inferior, and alone. And at last, we can take a breath and relax.

However, to alter our bodies and mold them to a predetermined foreign image means to precisely reject who we truly are, be confused about who we should become, and completely abandon our path in this life while walking somebody else’s. The pressure is immense, the inner experience harsh, and the process desperately lonely. Welcome to this lose-lose dilemma: we all share your experience.

We invite you to join us for this meaningful 6-week journey within which we will deconstruct our relationship to our bodies, question our thoughts about our appearance, and allow new insights to emerge. Through experiential exercises, inner inquiries, and group shares, we will transform our beliefs about ourselves and our bodies and discover a better way of being in our temples.

Let’s come home to our bodies. Let’s come home to ourselves.

  • Week 1: What I want you to think of my body
  • Week 2: What I secretly think of mine
  • Week 3: How vicious can I get?
  • Week 4: Dear body…
  • Week 5: Towards a new way of being
  • Week 6: Coming home to my body

An optional 4-week aftercare program will be available to those who would like to continue and deepen the work (at no extra cost).

About the course facilitators

Amel Arhab

Amel Arhab is a Los Angeles based executive coach and clinical hypnotherapist who works with leaders and organizations experiencing major life shifts, by exploring the art & science of powerful transformation. She combines a keen understanding of human nature, the latest in cutting-edge science, and timeless wisdom from ancient traditions to develop influential mindsets, support potent behaviors, and optimize relational dynamics. Amel has been a highly committed student of The Work for over a decade.

After meeting Deepa at the 2023 School for the Work, these two have become dedicated partners for the Work on a weekly basis, and co-hosted the last season of the BK Book club together. Amel uses The Work as one of many powerful modalities in her coaching and hypnotherapy practice. She plans this course as an additional way to move the Work in the world; helping individuals and couples heal and transform, one belief at a time!

Deepa Swamy

Deepa Swamy has been a follower of spiritual teachings for a decade and a regular practitioner of the Work since 2022. She has been an active participant in several Schools, workshops and ITW offerings, and was on track to become a Certified Facilitator of the Work before the ITW shut down. Deepa picked up the book “I Need Your Love, Is That True”, when worksheets kept pointing her to themes of self-respect and found this book to be a supportive track to the Work to grow in Earth School. She started the BK Book Club in an attempt to delve deeper into her approval-seeking tendencies, while offering a learning space for others in the same boat, and to reflect in a safe communal setting. Deepa knows her quest for respect is still ongoing, and she is called to revisit the book whenever the ego needs a gentle nudge 🙂

Deepa has initiated several other voluntary activities, such as the Work for Breakfast in Asia time, Moving the Work in the World learning group, besides her regular practice in doing and facilitating the Work.

Through this course, she hopes to use the lens of approval to help herself and course participants inquire deeply into our own truths.
